Acrostic poem: like a traditional acrostic poem, only the phrases have nothing to do with the person whose name is used and are even sometimes completely opposed to the person (as in Evangelical-ish for the E in Katy Rose.) It should be noted that this form of poetry was originally invented by Erica and Teagan, although the art has developed rapidly.
Also: as in “also, JW!!” Used to briefly exclaim about one of our obsessions even if it is not directly related to the topic at hand. (Used with either colon or comma. eg. “also, Batman!” or “also: summer!” When used with a dash, denotes abrupt change in topic, eg. “Also- when are you coming back?”.)
APWH: Advanced Placement World History. A class Katy took sophomore year and references a lot. Slightly secondary AP-related acronym, as APUSH is pretty freaking funny.
Bens: musical artists named Ben who are expecially gifted. i.e. Ben Gibbard, Ben Folds
Best friends about: When you’re really close with someone over one particular topic. i.e. “Elena and I are best friends about The Office.” or “We’re best friends about Guster.”
Brain Damage: A childhood game invented by Mel, Elana, Erica, and Katy,(see: MEEK) especially adapted and only to be played in the master bedroom of the Joffe House. The details of the game should probably never be recorded.
Clearly: A word than can be used as an affirmative, a general agreement, a filler word, an exclamation, or, when pronounced with a little throat clearing beforehand, a sarcastic statement. Generally believed to have originated from Patrick/John MacEnroe, though these claims were never verified.
Craizy: this is just how we pronounce the word crazy.
Djokey: Nickname for the Serbian tennis champion, Novak Djokovic.
Existing?: Used to ask if the other person is currently online and available to chat.
Expecially: a word I accidentally just made up while typing the definition for Bens. Mixture of especially and exceptionally. I guess.
Feddy: Nickname for Roger Federer, greatest tennis player to ever live. And he’s Swiss.
fizziks: the correct spelling of physics. But only the name of the class.
fosh: “for sure.” A parody of gansta-ness that went awry.
FTW: For The Win. Katy used this one time and Erica did not get it so I thought maybe I’d put it on here so she wouldn’t forget because she’s kind of stupid like that.
gifured: pretty much like figured, actually.
gmaul: I’m not really sure, actually…but it’s important.
H-to-H: short for “heart-to-heart conversation”, can refer to a deep discussion or gossiping. Usually talked about far more than actually executed.
ha ha: used in text chats only if the person is actually laughing. Not like lol which people sometimes just put where there might be an awkward pause if the conversation was spoken.
hait: a nicer way of saying hate. This is if you don’t really hate the person, or if you love them but you want to express a negative reaction to their actions/success/words.
Harry: the name of our copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Is this awesome y/n?: used to verify the awesome-ness of a statement, idea or fact.
JW: John Williams, i.e. the Beethoven of our time. What a rockstar. Also a default post-script to any sentence or conversation.
Key: as in “it’s pretty key.” Something that is important and or awesome. eg. “We need to order those tickets for the Death Cab concert. It’s pretty key.”
larfe: maybe like a seal or one of the thundercats?
MEEK: A short way of referring to the four of us. Although Erica tends to think of it as MEK, which sounds less like a real word and more like an acronym, and aren’t the two E’s redundant anyway?
My sentiments exactly: a statement of agreement, as is implied, with an extra amount of… soujirou-ness. Meant to be said only in the exact same tone used in the bad dubbed version of the show Rurouni Kenshin.
Onversation: a conversation that flows exceptionally well, is chock-full of inside jokes and oblique references to awesome things, and is generally accompanied with lots of laughter. May appear incomprehensible to the casual observer. Often dubbed “a giggle attack’ by unsuspecting parents.
Qwantzy: of, or relating to, the webcomic found at www.qwantz.com
Reptar: this means Katy. It is the polite version on her other nickname that combines ‘fat’ and ‘retard’. (See: unspellable words)
Shank: verb; to stab. Used in Counter-Strike and also as a sort of onomatopoeic interjection.
Slash: (disambiguation) NOT the fanfiction practice of making two male characters get it on, but instead a conjunction that denotes ‘and/or’ in a convenient way. Also can be used to imply interchangeability, for example Patrick/John MacEnroe, pronounced “Patrick slash John MacEnroe”. Does NOT imply a gay (incestuous?) relationship
unspellable words: words that you can say but for some reason you can’t spell them because no matter what you do or how many hyphens you put in, it just doesn’t sound right.
Velociraptors: The deadliest of creatures. I think this makes our stance about Velociraptors pretty clear.
Wamu: The Emo Whale. An oft-talked about webcomic that does not actually exist. Yet.
Y/n?: used to denote a yes or no question. See: is this awesome, y/n?
?: Thanks to Dinosaur Comics, it is becoming chic among the SATA community to place question marks after sentences that were not necessarily, or even a little bit, interrogative.
